ISSA Resources

CIMS-Green Building. To help meet the growing demand for green and “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” (LEED) certification, the Cleaning Industry Management Standard & Certification Program has been expanded to include new “Green Building” (GB) criteria and a new optional GB designation.

Green Cleaning for Dummies. The ISSA special edition of Green Cleaning for Dummies shows you how to implement a green cleaning program for your commercial or institutional cleaning operation. This guide is a trustworthy source of unbiased information and was written by experts with years of experience in the cleaning industry who are committed to helping companies go green.

ISSA Guide to Green Procurement Policies. This ISSA guide provides ISSA members with a comprehensive overview of the green cleaning procurement policies, initiatives, and other requirements of local, state, and federal government agencies. For each entry in this document, you will find a summary of the green cleaning product procurement policy as well as embedded hyperlinks that will allow you to readily access the underlying documents that formed the basis for the summary.

Green Cleaning and LEED-EBOM: What’s the Connection? ISSA establishes the nexus between green cleaning and maintenance activities and the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (LEED-EBOM) certification in its latest publication. This document identifies those LEED-EBOM requirements that are related to cleaning and maintenance and describes the actions necessary to achieve credit for those items.

ISSA Safety and Health Portal. Under the auspices of the ISSA/OSHA Alliance, the association has developed a one-of-a-kind Web network dedicated exclusively to the safety and health of workers in the cleaning industry. The site offers six topic pages focusing on: Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens; Cleaning Chemicals in the Workplace (Hazard Communication); Injury & Illness Recordkeeping; Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); Slips, Trips, and Falls in the Workplace; and Small Business Resources.

CleanGredients. ISSA is a sponsor of CleanGredients, an online database of institutional and industrial (I&I) cleaning product ingredient chemicals that provides verified information about the environmental and human health attributes of listed ingredients. CleanGredients is designed to help formulators identify better ingredients, as well as to provide suppliers with a venue to showcase ingredients with a preferred environmental safety and health profile. ISSA also sits on the Steering Committee that oversees the development of CleanGredients.

U.S. EPA Design for the Environment (DfE). ISSA has established a formal alliance with the U.S. EPA DfE Formulator Program. Under this program, DfE provides formulators with valuable support in developing chemical-based cleaning products with preferred environmental and safety and health profiles.
