ISSA and its subsidiary the American Association of Cleaning Equipment Manufacturers (AACEM) have collaborated to develop the AACEM/ISSA Quarterly Industry Trends Report, which highlights critical data to help ISSA and AACEM members stay current with commercial construction activity and projections, flooring materials trends, and key U.S. economic indicators that impact our industry. ISSA Research: The Internet of Things & the Cleaning Industry
In late 2017, ISSA surveyed member firms to gather information on their perspectives, adoption, and outlook on Internet of Things (IoT) technology solutions in the commercial cleaning industry. Per Gartner, IoT is “the network of physical objects that contain embedded technology to communicate and sense or interact with their internal states or the external environment.”
This report summarizes the aggregate findings from the survey and highlights members’ experience/familiarity with IoT, benefits and challenges for those who have adopted IoT, and their views on how IoT may impact their businesses in the future. Do Green Buildings Make Dollars & Sense?
In conjunction with the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate at the University of San Diego, CB Richard Ellis has released the largest study of its kind on the benefits of green office space for occupants located in a significant portfolio of CBRE managed office buildings. The study found occupants reported increased productivity and fewer sick days, and that green buildings have both lower vacancy and higher rental rates.

Report on Cleanliness & Learning in Higher Education
Results of a joint research study conducted by APPA’s Center for Facilities Research and ISSA
This national study surveyed college students to determine if there is a correlation between the Five Levels of APPA cleanliness and academic achievement. The findings showed that 88 percent of students reported that the lack of cleanliness becomes a distraction at APPA Level 3 (Casual Inattention) and Level 4 (Moderate Dinginess). Eighty-four percent reported that they desire APPA Level 1 (Orderly Spotlessness) and a Level 2 (Ordinary Tidiness) of cleanliness to create a good learning environment. Cleanliness ranked as the fourth most important building element to impact personal learning.
