Warehouse Safety

Every year, thousands of injuries occur in warehouses across the United States. In fact, the fatal injury rate for the warehousing industry is higher than the national average rate for all industries. Moreover, given the nature of activity at warehouses, there are numerous potential hazards that confront employees every day including:

  • Unsafe use of powered industrial trucks (forklifts)
  • Improper handling of materials
  • Ergonomic hazards
  • Slips, trips, and falls

These hazards represent potential pain and suffering for workers as well as reduced productivity for the warehousing operations. In order to ensure a safe, orderly, and efficient warehouse, it is critical that distributors and wholesalers pay close attention to conditions that affect safety and health.

The ISSA and OSHA Alliance developed this section on warehouse safety to foster a safe and healthy working environment for the employees of distributors and wholesalers of cleaning products.
