3M has finalized the divestment of its optical fiber and copper cable telecommunications business to Corning, Inc.

The US$870 million deal, announced last December, calls for more than 500 employees of 3M’s optical fiber division to transfer to Corning. The $30 million sale of 3M’s Hamburg, Germany-based telecommunications system integration services to Corning remains pending, but is expected to be finalized by the end of the year.
