3M, in partnership with Discovery Education, has launched the 2017 Young Scientist Challenge.

Now in its 10th year, the contest calls for students in grades 5-8 to submit a two-minute video demonstrating an innovation that could provide a solution to an everyday problem. A panel of judges will select 10 finalists who will then be paired with a 3M scientist to create an invention that solves the problem they identified.

The 10 finalists will receive US$1,000 and a trip to 3M’s Innovation Center in St. Paul, MN. The winning student will receive $25,000 along with the opportunity to attend the taping of a Discovery Network TV show.
