Detroit Janitor Strike Averted

Janitors at Detroit, MI public schools have called off a strike following positive discussions with their employer.
The janitors work for U.S. Metro Group and service nearly half of the school buildings in the Detroit Public Schools Community District. They said that U.S. Metro has retaliated against workers who have tried to organize with the Service Employees International Union, the Detroit Free Press reports. The union claimed some of the janitors are paid less than US$10 an hour.
An official for U.S. Metro Group said the company has not done anything to prevent workers from organizing. According to the official, U.S. Metro Group pays workers $10-$12 an hour, the usual rate for school janitors in Detroit.
