More U.S. Hotels Requiring Panic Buttons for Employees

Next year Chicago, IL, will join other cities across the Unites States who have equipped hotel maids with panic buttons and other devices to protect them from potential abusers, Bloomberg reports.

Hotel housekeepers in New York, NY, have been equipped with panic buttons since 2013. Seattle, WA, hotel workers carry electronic whistles that alert security.

The hotel housekeeping industry is committed to protecting its workers from predators who harass and abuse women at work. Although cases of sexual harassment have been getting a lot of exposure lately, the experiences of low-wage, service industry workers have not gotten as much attention.
